Residents press Callaway commissioners for debris-pickup workshop and enforcement on mixed loads

Several residents used the public-participation period to press the commission to revisit debris pickup policy and enforcement. Speakers described mixed piles left at the curb and questioned whether the city’s solid-waste service and charges align with pickup frequency and costs. One resident urged coordination with Bay County amnesty days but staff noted county rules restrict commercial vehicle drop-off and that coordination may be limited.

Commissioners and staff acknowledged the concerns and asked staff to prepare data and a suggested workshop date to examine debris-pickup frequency, enforcement (NOVs and abatement) and potential rate impacts. "We can let me get some numbers together, and we'll propose a date," the City Manager said, and staff committed to provide existing pickup statistics and potential cost scenarios to inform a future workshop.
