Staff outlines updated planning‑commission training and offers tailored sessions

Staff told the commission that state law recently changed to add approximately one hour to required planning commission training and to broaden the list of recommended topics. The additional hour and the expanded topic list — appeals, conditional uses, exactions, impact fees, subdivision regulations, property‑rights procedures and financing — mean more opportunities for staff‑led training and for commissioners to request tailored sessions.

Staff member (S6) said the commission could request targeted trainings on particular topics and offered to provide materials to applicants. "There's an additional hour," staff noted, and listed subjects staff can cover during workshops. Commissioners indicated they found the training timely and asked that the materials be made available to applicants as well.
