Board reiterates public participation rules; member urges better listening

The Colman‑Egan School District 50‑5 board began its meeting by reviewing the district’s public participation and board meetings policy, reminding members and the public that speakers should notify the superintendent before the posted start time if they wish to address the board. The chair said the board will be "a little bit lenient" for late requests but stressed the policy bars "oral complaints regarding district personnel or personnel actions" and forbids identifying individual students to protect privacy.

During public comment, a board member (speaker 5) read from the Associated School Boards handbook and criticized the board’s responsiveness. The member said, "None of you were willing to listen to me," and urged the board to "welcome people who come to see you about school problems" and to maintain two‑way communication with staff, students and the community. The board did not take formal action on that request but acknowledged it would consider communications practices in future meetings.
