Humboldt County supervisors approve consent calendar; two items pulled for discussion

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors approved the consent calendar at its July 7 meeting while holding two items — a security services agreement and a juvenile hall camera replacement — for further discussion and explanation.

During the consent discussion, the board agreed to pull D9 and D12 for separate review. After public comment and brief exchanges with staff, Supervisor Bone moved to accept the security agreement and later moved to approve the juvenile hall camera purchase. Both motions were seconded and passed by unanimous consent. The chair noted a 10:30 a.m. closed-session time and asked staff to be mindful of timing.

Board members and members of the public asked staff for clearer explanations about procurement and expenditures when bid prices vary widely or when equipment is being replaced shortly after building completion. One supervisor asked for either a memo or a return agenda item that lays out why higher-cost bids were chosen and how costs compare across proposals. The board took no further action beyond approving the consent calendar items that were not pulled and adopting the staff recommendations on the two pulled items.
