Elementary interim test results show gains above state averages; district invited to be 'lighthouse' for science of reading

Presenter reported that Whitehall Elementary's interim assessment results show promising performance compared with the state: "we doubled the state average" in ELA on one published interim measure and multiple grade levels posted math results 66% or more above the state figure, the presenter said, while cautioning the published numbers represent a conservative low-end projection based on a single interim assessment.

Staff clarified the interim assessment covers roughly one-third of standards and final, comprehensive results will be reported in June after two additional assessments. District leaders emphasized the interim data indicate potential and explained staff will continue to monitor progress across the remaining semester.

Separately, staff said the Montana comprehensive literacy state development manager, Rachel Gott, invited Whitehall Elementary to be designated a 'lighthouse district' for the science of reading. The designation would include external observations and work with author Patty Montgomery and communities of practice to refine instructional implementation. Staff framed the invitation as a professional-development opportunity the district will begin in April and continue through the grant cycle.
