Community and Economic Development Committee unanimously recommends rezoning of West Canal Street parcel

Lynn Snee, chair of the Community and Economic Development Committee, opened the meeting on Monday and introduced Ordinance O 33 20 26, a proposal to rezone a parcel on West Canal Street from B-3 Central Business District and R-5 Single Family Residential to R-5 Single Family Residential. The committee was asked to provide a recommendation to the council.

Mister Titterington, who provided the staff summary, said, "Just a reminder, this was recommended by the planning commission." He added that the rezoning was initiated by the new homeowner and that the council hearing on Aug. 17 drew no opposition; only the applicant supported the request. Chair Snee also noted the applicant, Ms. Sturgill, was not present at this committee meeting but had spoken in favor at the prior hearing.

A committee member asked whether the zoning change would require any adjustments to electric or water service; Titterington answered there were none. After brief clarification that the rezoning would make the area zoned consistently, a committee member said, "I would move forward," and the chair echoed the motion. The committee voted to move the item forward to council as staff recommended; the chair said, "Then it's unanimous that we move forward as staff has recommended."

With no further items on the agenda, Chair Snee adjourned the committee meeting.
