Committee endorses assistant director pay recommendation for community development and planning

On Aug. 28 the Finance Committee voted to recommend that the full Gardner City Council adopt a compensation measure for the assistant director of community development and planning, Mr. Steiner.

A recommending official outlined Steiner’s qualifications and hiring process, noting a master’s in public affairs from Brown University, a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Waterloo, and prior work with international and municipal organizations. "Master's in public affairs with a focus on urban policy, analysis from Brown University, has a bachelor's degree in environmental studies from the University of Waterloo, has worked with the, United Nations, human settlement program in Montreal, worked with the city of Toronto," the director-level speaker said, describing Steiner’s background and the expected benefits for CDBG project oversight and social-service providers that rely on those funds.

The committee moved the item to the full council pending suspension of the rules; a voice vote recorded all present as "aye," and the motion carried. The full council will consider the compensation measure next.
