Recreation director reports program growth; court resurfacing planned Sept. 1

Dan Sturgeon delivered the Recreation Department update at the Aug. 18 Selectmen meeting, reporting participation trends and upcoming facility work.

Sturgeon said the summer recreation program concluded with registrations "consistent with prior years" and that the aftercare session operated near capacity with 20 participants over the eight‑week season. He noted the Todd Squad preschool program expanded into two age groups and increased from 19 participants last year to 33 this year. Sturgeon reported the summer concert series was expanded to nine weeks, with the final performance planned at the Function Hall gazebo, and that outdoor pickleball will continue through the end of August because of planned court renovations. He advised that Andrew Keniston had joined year‑round staff and that the tennis and basketball court area at Kraine Meadow Park is scheduled for resurfacing work on or about Sept. 1. Sturgeon also said facilities staff inspected a new basement water issue and that dehumidification and pallets are being used to limit mold risk; staff will continue monitoring.
