Council creates Budget & Finance Advisory Committee and appoints citizen members

The Double Oak Town Council voted July 22 to create a Budget & Finance Advisory Committee charged to serve in an advisory capacity on the town’s financial health and long‑range forecasting.

Council discussion centered on scope and wording: members debated the committee’s responsibilities, whether to list specific examples in the resolution, and whether language such as "spending limits" or "spending controls" better described the committee’s role. After edits — removing redundant phrasing after "fiscal watchdog," deleting example lists such as "such as capital improvements" and replacing the phrase "spending limits" with "spending controls" — council adopted the resolution and directed the town attorney to prepare the final form.

Council then opened nominations for five citizen seats. After brief introductions from applicants, council confirmed Amanda Martinez, Robert Moore, Deborah Porter, Patricia Turner and Chris Walker by roll call to fill the initial membership slots on the advisory committee.

Councilmember McCormick, a sponsor of the resolution, said the committee is intended to "act as a financial watchdog" and provide long‑range forecasting and grant‑research help, while final budget decisions remain with the council.

Committee members will be asked to participate in the August 8 budget workshop and to submit recommendations to council for prioritizing capital needs and researching grant funding opportunities.
