Superintendent outlines playground replacement plan and grant that would cover half the structure cost

Superintendent (S5) told the board that the district’s main playground structure has "hit its end of useful life" and that the district solicited proposals. S5 said vendors returned three proposals ranging roughly from $84,000 to $160,000 and that the grant S5 applied for would pay "50% of your playground upgrade." S5 said, "So they're willing to pay for 50% of any kind of the structure that we wanna put there." The superintendent gave a line-item breakdown that included structure, shipping, tax and installation and said vendor installation would meet safety and code specifications.

S5 reported a $10,000 pledge from a local donor and an ASB account balance near $15,000 that PTO has managed; S5 described additional possible support from the Good Shepherd Foundation and other grant opportunities that could reduce the district’s out-of-pocket cost to about $50,000. Board members generally supported pursuing grants and forming a community fundraising committee. S5 said installation could be completed by the end of February if timelines hold.
