District reports rapid math gains; staff pushing accelerated track into geometry

Staff member told the board the district has "made huge strides" in math performance after focused professional learning community work and coaching by staff. "At 11th grade, last year, we were 0% passed, and we think this year, we're at or above the state average in 1 year of turnaround there," the staff member said.

Staff described curricular alignment that places an advanced 8th-grade textbook closely aligned with ninth-grade content and said qualifying students who pass the exit test can go directly into geometry rather than repeating algebra I. The board discussed scheduling and credits, and a Committee member and parents praised teacher support and out-of-class help that has increased student confidence.
