Jail administrator reports 41 inmates, four hires and requests $1,657.95 camera replacement

Jackson County jail administrator Andrew Long updated supervisors on operations, population and staffing and asked the board for direction on replacing a padded-cell camera that was fouled and rendered inoperable. "So currently, we're sitting at 41 inmates in our jail," Long said, and he reported November revenue from Scott County of $36,355 and facility running totals for the fiscal year.

Long said four full-time positions were offered and accepted (Brooklyn Massey, Gabriel Dotson, Brent Beeston and Chris Atkinson) and that the county plans to hold sergeant interviews and written testing in mid-January. He described an instance of property damage in a padded cell and said a waterproof/outdoor-rated camera installation would cost "$1,657.95"; he asked whether the board prefers to treat the replacement as a capital improvement or cover the cost another way. The board discussed charging the inmate for damage but Long and others noted recovery is unlikely when mental illness is the causal factor.
