Supervisors advance two bridge projects into FY26, approve Resolution 1151

County engineering staff told the board that two bridge projects need to be moved into fiscal year 26 so they may be publicly bid this winter. One structure on 17th Street was described as having a severely deteriorated substructure rating, prompting staff to recommend replacement rather than a patch repair.

The board approved a resolution to advance the projects so the county can let bids in the current fiscal year and construct the bridges next summer; the resolution was entered into the record as Resolution 1151‑10‑28‑2025 amending the secondary road construction program to advance the 17th Street and 458th Avenue bridges to FY26. Chair and county engineering staff discussed the bid threshold under Iowa code and the need for public lettings when estimates exceed the bid threshold.

"Approve resolution 1151‑10‑28‑2025, amending secondary road construction program advancing the, 17th Street and 45 8th Avenue bridges to the current f y 26 fiscal year," the chair read, and the board carried the motion by voice vote.

Engineering staff will proceed with cost estimates and letting steps required for public bidding; the board did not authorize final construction contracts at this meeting.
