Board approves Reynolds School final design; bids due Aug. 11, GMP targeted for October

The Monroe County School Board approved final design construction documents from Roe Architects for the Reynolds School renovation and heard a detailed schedule for bidding and contract formation.

Commissioner Laffir summarized the final bid set and renderings, saying the documents reflect only detailed-spec changes since the last review and that the project team had waited for the construction manager at risk to complete its review. He outlined the procurement timeline: RFIs due next week, a pre-bid meeting later this week, bids due on August 11, and an anticipated GMP and board consideration on Oct. 6 so the district could issue a notice to proceed on Oct. 7. He also described moving the maintenance department into Reynolds and keeping the historic building for office and classroom space.

Board members asked technical questions about where specific shops and classrooms would be located, generator porting for portable power at the loading dock, classroom capacities for adult education and how the maintenance move would affect Bruce Hall. The presenter said a portable-generator port at the loading dock will supply back shop spaces. The motion to approve the final design documents passed after a motion and second.

Why it matters: the approval moves the project from design to solicitation. The dates set by staff establish the timeline for contractor selection and a GMP that will determine final cost and schedule commitments.

What's next: responses to RFIs and any addenda will be posted, bids will be opened in August and staff will return to the board with a GMP contract for approval in October.
