Commissioners approve FDOT District 3 headquarters redevelopment and three small-scale map amendments

During the meeting commissioners approved a major development review from the Florida Department of Transportation for a District 3 headquarters and several small-scale future land-use map amendments submitted by private landowners. Planning staff said the FDOT project will remove two existing buildings and replace them with a three-story, 33,000-square-foot headquarters building on a roughly 12.85-acre site along Highway 90; staff and the planning commission recommended approval and no members of the public opposed the project at the hearing.

The board also approved small-scale map amendments submitted by the Williams family (roughly 4.94 acres within Crystal Airpark) and by Miss Hernandez (approximately 5.96 acres near Highway 77). Staff explained both requests were to make the future land-use designation compatible with the owners’ planned uses and that required neighborhood information meetings were held; both items were approved by the board following planning‑staff recommendation.
