District prepares bid documents for Pelican Sound gatehouse renovations; gate and paver replacements planned

Charlie Krebs, District Engineer, told the Board that the application for the Pelican Sound gatehouse renovations was sent to the Village of Estero and that checks were issued by Bowman Incorporated. "The draft Bid Document language was sent to Mr. Pires and Mr. Adams today," Krebs said, and he outlined the plan to obtain counsel approval, advertise for sealed bids, provide bid packages to potential bidders and set a submission deadline and formal bid opening.

Krebs and staff discussed ongoing value engineering on the main entrance monuments and options to incorporate aesthetic improvements such as lattice or landscaping. He also noted the metal gates at the US 41 main gate are being replaced with gates similar to the Williams gate and that the scope includes paver replacement; Board members raised traffic-backup concerns about a double-gate concept and were told the front entrance would generally remain open during daytime.
