Councilmembers update on housing, water, events and conservation work

During council reports on May 26, members provided updates on community services, housing availability and water planning.

Councilmember Caitlin said local homeless services reported the availability of two two-bedroom cottage units arriving in June and July and asked residents to join the waiting list; the meeting transcript recorded the rent figure discussed as "$17.90 per month" but the council did not elaborate further on that number during the meeting. Caitlin also noted a free dental clinic for people experiencing homelessness on June 12 and that a community survey on speed limits had received 124 responses.

The mayor and other councilmembers discussed ongoing water planning efforts. The mayor said the city applied for a $3,000,000 federal appropriation for a water tank and had also been asked by the Division of Water Resources to apply for state funding; he said decisions on federal and state funding were expected in July. A councilmember reported that Kins Lake dam had an inspection and was "in good repair," though the lake level is dropping amid expected water-supply concerns.

Councilmembers also touched on local events—public-works and community celebrations—and encouraged participation in upcoming programming tied to the MARC exhibit and other summer activities.
