Select Board tables resolution to delegate emergency powers pending attorney language

The Select Board reopened a previously tabled resolution that would authorize the select board chair, and in the chair's absence the vice chair, to take action in emergency situations between meetings. The propose d language was read aloud: "the select board chair and in their absence the select board vice chair are authorized to take action in emergency situations in between select board meetings." Members raised concerns about the resolution27s scope, especially whether it could be read to allow the chair to commit the town to significant spending without board oversight.

Several members asked that the language be clarified to limit spending authority and to define "emergency" (examples discussed included imminent storms, flood response, or equipment failure). The board unanimously agreed to consult the town attorney for suggested language and tabled the resolution until the attorney27s advice can be incorporated.
