Director reports catalog usability problems and summer reading engagement

Library Director Inga reported that the public catalog currently defaults to a keyword search rather than a title search, producing confusing results for patrons; she will investigate whether the vendor Biblionix can change the default and may add an explanatory note on the catalog page in the interim. Angela offered additional website/catalog feedback that will be addressed separately due to time constraints.

The Adult Summer Reading Program has engaged roughly five participants so far, including readers in their 30s and 40s — a demographic the library has historically struggled to reach. The board discussed adding a winter reading program and streamlining Book Bingo to increase participation. The board also accepted a donated Little Free Library box for Mill Village and agreed it should be stocked with donations (not official circulating items) and kept informal to avoid accidental returns of library materials.
