Nutter Fort canvass panel preliminarily affirms 2025 results, sets $300 recount bond

The Town of Nutter Fort’s canvassing meeting on June 16, 2025, reviewed and preliminarily affirmed the municipal election returns and set procedures for any recount. Councilor Charlene Louk moved “to set the bond for $300 for any possible recount,” a motion seconded by Councilor Karen Phillips and approved unanimously.

Recorder Natalie Haddix opened and unloaded the ballot box, which had been secured with two locks, and the canvassers inspected ballots and stubs before reading initial totals aloud. The initial count listed Rezin Hudkins as the apparent winner in the mayoral race with 123 votes; after the canvass counted a verified provisional ballot the mayoral total was revised to 124 votes. Natalie Haddix was listed as the winner for Recorder with 169 votes initially and 170 after the provisional ballot was added.

Council confirmed there had been one provisional ballot. In accordance with WV Code 3-2-31 the council verified the provisional ballot belonged to a Nutter Fort voter and then opened and counted it with assistance from poll commissioner Kandi Atkinson. After adding that ballot the official tallies were read and entered on the tally sheet: Mayor — Rezin Hudkins 124 (winner); Recorder — Natalie Haddix 170 (winner); council race totals were recorded as read; the fire levy stood at For 154, Against 51 following the provisional addition.

Council approved the statement of ballots from June 10, 2025, and set a 48-hour window for any recount requests. If no recount is requested, the council will reconvene at 6:30 p.m. on June 18, 2025, to certify the results. The meeting adjourned by acclamation at 6:30 p.m.
