Middletown reports progress replacing meters and pilot study shows improved water quality; pump‑station and water‑main projects planned

Operations reported that the number of estimated bills fell from about 386 to roughly 40 after a focused meter‑replacement effort and radio upgrades, which staff said should reduce future billing disputes. Theresa, speaking for operations, said, "For operations, we're continuing to reduce the number of estimates" and described outreach and meter work to bring customers onto accurate reads.

Staff also described a pilot that used hydrogen peroxide and ultrasonic devices in a reservoir; initial results showed reduced disinfection byproducts and staff submitted the pilot report to the state, which the department expects will respond in about two weeks. The department outlined several capital projects including design work for the Bartholomew Road booster pump station and upgrades to the Johnson Street pump station, recent main breaks that were repaired, hydrant installations for an apartment complex, and plans to update GIS valve mapping for operations. Staff said some projects are expected to go to bid this spring or summer.
