Committee backs Stephanie Bridgeforth to lead Prince George's County HR office

The Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee voted 3-0 to move a favorable recommendation for Stephanie Bridgeforth's appointment as director of the Office of Human Resources Management.

Bridgeforth, the county executive's nominee, told the committee she views human resources as "the people business" and outlined a program to modernize hiring, compensation and HR systems. She said a county executive mandate issued on 12/01/2025 set a goal to fill non–public-safety positions in fewer than 40 days and that OHRM's work with a consultant has driven measurable improvement: "Our average was 30 days. We went from 89 days," she said, while noting the figures are early and additional process work remains.

Committee members praised Bridgeforth's private- and public-sector experience and moved and seconded a favorable recommendation. The clerk recorded the committee vote as Adams: Aye; Bellegarde: Aye; Ivy: Aye. The motion carried 3-0.

Bridgeforth emphasized priorities that include updating classification and compensation structures, improving hiring procedures and using technology where appropriate. She said OHRM will explore automation tools, including AI for routine tasks, while safeguarding data inputs and refining processes before broader rollout.

Next steps: the committee's favorable recommendation advances the nomination to the Council for further consideration. No implementation dates for Bridgeforth's proposals were provided at the committee hearing.
