Council weighs multiple event and facility-use requests, flags cost and site concerns

Council considered several event and facility-use requests at the Feb. 26 work session and asked staff for more time to review logistics and borough costs.

ELCO Youth Little League requested use of the Legion and softball fields and the Keystone Hook & Ladder Company requested permission for their annual food-truck fundraiser; both requests were placed on the March 11 regular meeting agenda. The Myerstown Vitality Partnership asked to hold a farmers market in the rear parking lot of the Borough Community Center; council members raised concerns about tenant use and parking and suggested the park's fishpond area as an alternative site. Daniel Ebling of the Elmer C. Ebling Memorial Charity sought approvals for multiple events, including a carnival and summer concerts; Vice President Bryan L. Rittle questioned the quantity of events and said there are borough costs for electric, water/sewer, toilets and staff, while Daniel Ebling said the goal is "to raise money for the charity to have events that are free for the community." President Park W. Haverstick, II asked that event submissions be made with more lead time for staff review.

Next steps: Multiple event requests were placed on the March 11, 2025 agenda for staff reports and council action; staff will prepare cost/impact information and alternative site analyses where appropriate.
