Residents press for enforcement, bollards and paid attendants as short-term fixes ahead of July 4

As officials warned of heavy holiday travel, several residents and committee members argued that enforcement and temporary physical controls are the most immediate tools available.

"The quickest and easiest tool that we can take out of the box is enforcement," said one committee member, urging the byways group to lobby elected officials for funding to support concentrated enforcement during peak periods. Multiple residents asked why physical measures (bollards, boulders or cones) cannot be more widely used to prevent illegal parking; Caltrans and park staff said such measures have been tried in some locations but can interfere with emergency access and maintenance and sometimes require property-owner authority.

Suggestions also included contracting local paid attendants or seasonal flaggers to manage parking and pedestrian flows; one resident proposed a locally hired, paid program that would not require building permanent infrastructure. County staff (Supervisor Daniels' office) said they would convene a follow-up meeting with partners to identify reservation, shuttle and enforcement hang-ups and options for near-term staffing or funding supports.
