Board approves preliminary plat and several interim-use permits; denies rezoning request

The Isanti County Board reviewed several planning items forwarded from the planning commission, approving a four-lot preliminary plat and multiple interim-use permits while denying a rezoning request.

Zoning administrator Trina summarized the Arbor Vitae (Arbor Bridal Estates) preliminary plat as four lots with Lot 1 = 16 acres, Lot 2 = 10.75 acres, Lot 3 = 2.81 acres, and Lot 4 = 3 acres; wetlands were identified and borings completed. The planning commission recommended approval with no conditions and the board approved the preliminary plat.

The board denied a rezoning request from John and Marcela Busick to change parcels in section 17 from Agriculture-Residential to Business; the planning commission's findings — that the request was incompatible with surrounding residential land use, located on a township road rather than a state highway, and adjacent business-zoned parcels were used residentially — were read into the record and the denial was affirmed.

On interim-use permits, the board approved: (1) a short-term rental for Ken and Chelsea Sands on a 33-acre Springvale Township property (currently four bedrooms, possible two more, with up to 14 occupants if expanded) with 19 conditions and five findings; Commissioner LaRue was recorded as abstaining for the record; (2) an interim permit requested by the Anoka‑Isanti County Conservation District for mining tied to a wetland restoration adjacent to County Ditch 13 in Oxford Township (the board noted spoil movement off the original site triggered review and approved the permit); and (3) an interim permit for Andy Ike to operate a tree‑cutting and snow‑plowing business on a 3.39-acre homestead property with nine conditions and five findings; the planning commission recommended approval of these items.
