Buda commission begins workshop-style edits to draft age-friendly action plan

Chair Kaufman opened a workshop-format review of the draft Age‑Friendly Action Plan and asked Director Matthew Wright to lead a live, section-by-section edit of the document. Wright told commissioners he had made formatting adjustments and would capture comments in the draft for either staff or the writing group to implement.

Wright said commissioners should treat the document as a working draft and suggested many changes be incorporated before seeking final approval. “This plan is probably a 5 to 10 year plan,” Wright said, framing the discussion around realistic timelines and staff capacity. Commissioners agreed to add a single-page executive summary, create a dedicated background section (consolidating the community assessment, walkability study and listening sessions), and use consistent language across sections.

The group directed staff to standardize fonts and headings, make tables uniform across domains (task, responsibility, time frame), and remove specific metrics from the domain tables so detailed outcome measures can be developed later in implementation. Commissioners asked staff to add hyperlinks or appendices for supporting reports on the City website and to present a draft for the writing committee’s review by June 9 and for inclusion in the June 12 packet ahead of a June 19 approval vote if feasible.
