Council hears update on Zone 1 sidewalk replacements, Safe Routes culvert funded

The village administrator told the Plain City Council that work to replace sidewalk panels in Zone 1 — the area west of Chillicothe and north of Main Street — will begin this year and that letters have been sent to affected property owners.

"The 1st part, we'll be doing complete panel replacement at a couple of properties," the administrator said, adding that crews will then grind and make sidewalks safe and that residents can report problems through public works. The administrator said the council budget included the line-item funding necessary to complete the initial Zone 1 work in the coming year.

On West Avenue connectivity, staff said the culvert replacement received grant funding through the Safe Routes program and that engineering to meet ODOT standards will consume much of the coming year. "We hope to see construction either late '26 or '27, depending on the ODOT schedule and right of way," staff said. The presentation noted the project is expected to be fully funded by the grant once design is complete.

The update also listed related park and plaza projects (depot construction, plaza brick work, pool shade structures) as part of broader public-works activity. Councilors directed residents to the public-works web page for the sidewalk maintenance program and zone maps.
