Municipality seeks up to $98,000 for added permitting work on rock‑slide mitigation project

Manager Emily Deitch told the committee that updated engineering review of the proposed rock‑slide mitigation route requires additional permitting and environmental work because the selected access route now needs widening and includes previously unassessed wetland areas.

"They're making an assumption that they need to rate 10 wetlands…so this is a not to exceed amount, and hopefully, we don't use it all," Deitch said, describing the permitting subcontractor's expanded scope. She noted the environmental team anticipates several more wetlands in the expanded corridor and that the contractor assumed a 100‑foot corridor for budgeting purposes. The proposed additional permitting work is within the scope of the municipality's BRIC grant and the figure discussed in the meeting was "a little more than $98,000."

Committee members pressed staff on when the assembly would have a chance to review corridor width and tradeoffs between helicopter access versus an improved access road. Deitch said a revised design submittal is due at the end of the month and that staff can return to the committee with more precise routing and width estimates once the updated plans are available.
