County canvass: commissioners accept provisional recommendations, approve final results

The Crawford County Commission on Friday opened the county board of canvassers and approved recommendations from the county election official on provisional ballots and the final primary results.

The county election official reported detailed provisional-ballot counts and reasons: 86 provisionals recommended to be counted (including 52 voters who moved within their voting district), and 73 recommended not to be counted (including 43 advance ballots returned undeliverable and 17 voters who moved out of jurisdiction). The election official also reported that 7,116 ballots were cast (not including provisionals) and that turnout was 25.5%. “We had 7,116 ballots cast,” the county election official said during the canvass.

Commissioner (speaker 5) moved to accept the county election officer’s recommendations on provisional ballots; speaker 6 seconded and the motion passed by voice vote. Later the chair (speaker 2) moved to accept the final results as presented and to close the canvass; both motions were seconded and approved. The commission signed official copies and the clerk said official results will be posted on the county website.

Why it matters: Approval of provisional recommendations and formal acceptance of results completes the local canvass process required after an election and makes the county’s certified totals available for public inspection.
