Fire protection specialist resigns; chief proposes daytime inspection coverage

The board learned that the district's fire protection specialist resigned this week and has requested a 60-day leave from paid-on-call duties; the board granted the leave consistent with policy.

The chief said the loss of the inspector opens a slot and proposed that daytime coverage include the chief, staff member Heather and two full-time 40-hour firefighters who would staff a vehicle and provide inspection services while remaining available for calls. "With the firefighter inspector leaving, that opens 1 position...We're asking for 1 more because we we have 1," the chief said, explaining how the daytime model would preserve inspection capacity and on-site response.

Board members asked whether daytime staffing would change the table of organization; the chief confirmed it would and noted the district is not performing building plan review or stamping drawings but is focused on maintenance inspections and public safety checks. The board asked staff to include any organizational chart changes in future budget materials.
