Board votes unanimously to extend Aramark–WSU alcohol pilot at Geyser Field

The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board caucus voted unanimously to continue the Aramark–Washington State University pilot that allows beer and wine service at most of Geyser Field. After a licensing briefing, the board moved and seconded a motion to extend the pilot; the motion passed on a 3–0 vote.

Joe Radmacher, a compliance specialist in the licensing division, told the caucus the enforcement team observed games last season and identified several concerns, including gaps in staff understanding of alcohol-control requirements, prevention of external and underage consumption, fan conduct and accountability, and overall event culture. "We are recommending an extension to this pilot program so that we can continue collaborating with the licensee and university to evaluate this level of service," Radmacher said.

Radmacher described specific corrective steps the licensee and university have committed to: a mix of virtual and in-person training for supervisors and servers, updates to the fan code of conduct, strengthened accountability measures for guests who violate alcohol or conduct policies, outreach and education with the student body, operational adjustments in pregame service areas, and a larger alcohol-free seating section in the North stands and adjacent concourses. The board’s vote allows licensing and enforcement to continue monitoring and working with Aramark and WSU on those measures.
