County reports performance problems on Contract 2677; plans to mill and repave one mile

County administration reported problems with Contract 2677, a three-mile hot-in-place recycle project on County Road 23, saying work began May 20 and was mutually halted after poor performance. Administration described progress toward a negotiated resolution with the contractor to remove the defective mile and restore the roadway by milling and repaving that section, while deleting the remaining two miles from the contract and potentially re-bidding them later.

"Contract 2677 is our 3 mile hot in place recycle project on County Road 23 from Trunk Highway 60 up to County Road 27. We started work on May 20. Had some challenges with the startup and, the performance, and that carried into the 21st ... After about a full day of work, we terminated, mutually agreed with the contractor that we're gonna stop that work," administration said. Staff said Crane Creek Asphalt has provided quotes to perform milling and repaving and that the contractor has accepted responsibility for some vehicle damages; a formal contract amendment or change-order action is expected at a future meeting.
