Board approves student Responsible Use Agreement, plans network security upgrades

The Fort Sam Houston ISD Board on July 29 approved the 2026-27 Student Responsible Use Agreement (RUA) for Technology Resources and received a technology update from Director Gina Rodriguez.

Rodriguez told trustees the technology department added two staff members (Systems Administrator William Zeppenfeltd and Administrative Assistant Bella Moreno Enriquez) and is targeting 90% completion of campus website updates by the first day of school. She said summer device distribution was aligned with new security protocols and that the district will implement a sustained digital citizenship curriculum for students and families rather than a single training event.

Rodriguez also outlined planned network-security enhancements to be communicated in the coming weeks, including new passphrase requirements and stricter controls on external system and file access. The 2026-27 Student RUA was submitted for board approval; the current RUA version maintains existing AI-related provisions but the district plans to propose further AI updates as the district's institutional AI strategy develops.

The motion to approve the RUA was made by Secretary COL(R) Aaron J. Braxton II and seconded by Vice President Rebecca Zinnante; the vote was unanimous.
