Pullman announces Labor Day closures, airporter reservation change and proclaims Constitution Week and Library Card Month

Mayor Francis Benjamin opened the Sept. 1 Pullman City Council meeting with community notices and two proclamations. He told residents that Pullman City Hall, Pullman administrative offices, the Pullman Recreation Center and Veil Public Library will be closed Monday, Sept. 8, for Labor Day, and that “the new Pullman Airporter will require reservations at least 24 hours in advance for service to and from the airport.”

Benjamin read two proclamations: one designating Sept. 17–23, 2026, as Constitution Week and another declaring September as Library Card Sign-up Month. Dimon Dillman of the Daughters of the American Revolution said the DAR chapter will host a public reading of the Constitution at Washington State University’s atrium, inviting citizens to attend. Kate Watts, chair of the Neal Public Library Board of Trustees, thanked the city and highlighted the board’s first formal goals and a recent generous estate gift to the library: “This is, to my knowledge and the best I could find, the board's 1st formal set of goals,” she said.
