Board finalizes 22 San Francisco landmark designations

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors on Sept. 1 finally passed 22 ordinances amending the planning code to designate specific properties across the city as landmarks.

The package—presented to the board as items 1 through 22—lists properties such as the Alexander Adams home at 1450 Masonic Avenue, the Born home at 99 Divisadero Street, the Phoenix Brewery at 552 Noe Street and the Engine Company No. 33 at 117 Broad Street. The clerk called the roll and the board recorded 11 ayes; President Mandelmann announced the ordinances were "finally passed" without objection.

The action came during the board's unfinished business calendar. The designations amend the planning code to add each property to the city’s official landmarks list and include the findings required under local law. The board did not hold extended debate on the package at the Sept. 1 meeting and approved the batch by roll call.

The ordinances will now be incorporated into the planning code as specified in the board packet and the associated findings are part of the legislative record. The clerk indicated the final passage took effect under the rules noted in the packet.
