Sheriff outlines grants for evidence-processing equipment and recurring policy service

The sheriffs office told commissioners it has pursued multiple grants that will fund evidence-processing equipment and help modernize evidence storage and handling. The office described needs for fingerprint kits, a heat sealer, digital scales and evidence markers; staff said the evidence room is full and that consolidation and destruction orders are ongoing.

The office also outlined a recurring contract with Lexipol for policy-management services. Speakers said the Lexipol engagement was negotiated down from a higher initial figure to about $23,576.78 and that the first year may be covered by a grant while future years will require budgeting. "Lexipol is $23,576.78," one presenter said; commissioners were told Lexipol provides ongoing attorney-reviewed policy updates but that its recurring fee must be planned for in future budgets.
