Board Approves Fleet Data Centers SUP for On‑Site Natural Gas Generation at Peru Shelf

The Storey County Board of County Commissioners approved Special Use Permit 2026-017 to allow Fleet Data Centers to construct an on-site natural gas–fueled electrical generating facility at 8990 USA Parkway in McCarran (APN 004-171-31). The project includes compressed natural gas storage and is accessory to a planned data‑center development.

Mitch Nelson, director of development for Fleet Data Centers, presented project details including proposed generators, fuel storage and haul routes. Planning Manager Kathy Canfield read findings and conditions; Commissioner Clay Mitchell added Condition Z (annual reporting to the Planning Commission) and Condition AA establishing a renewal date (July 31, 2031). The board approved the SUP by a 3-0 vote.

Presentation materials in the record noted the facility is part of broader Fleet investment tied to data center development and included environmental permitting plans, noise and air quality analyses, and an estimated project investment in the Fleet campus. The board’s approval is conditioned on compliance with the staff report, Planning Commission recommendation, the findings read into the record, and the specific conditions discussed during the hearing.

The applicant and staff said next steps include addressing conditions of approval and obtaining required construction permits; construction would likely commence in early 2027.
