Superintendent outlines "rowing together" road map, PLC partnership and five district goals

Superintendent Dr. Wenzel presented a high‑level district improvement plan and described three guiding priorities: reorienting central office to support principals, building principal instructional leadership and strengthening teacher collaboration through PLCs. "So we have a theme which is rowing together," he said, noting the metaphor will guide the year and a district kickoff event.

The superintendent spelled out five specific district goals tied to the plan: mathematics, English language arts, attendance, graduation rates and the successful delivery of Evergreen Elementary. He described a three‑year PLCs at Work partnership beginning with leadership in year one and expanding to teachers in years two and three to embed common practices around essential standards and instructional improvement.

Board members asked whether principals will have time to increase classroom visits; the superintendent said that is the explicit goal and that principals will need to designate time and set goals. He also noted principals will receive one‑on‑one support and that district staff will monitor alignment between school improvement plans and district goals. The superintendent suggested the October board retreat and the superintendent evaluation conversation should explicitly connect to these improvement goals.
