Committee members press for contractor oversight, say they want input on dock work

Members of the Burns Styles Canal Advisory Committee raised concerns about past dock and contractor work, citing what one member called a "horrendous job" that left material in canals. The member urged the committee to be "diligent on who's doing the work" and asked whether advisory members could intervene or evaluate contractors who perform waterfront construction.

A committee member said, "Knowing what we know from ARC, the horrendous job that they did where there is crap in the canal everywhere, I mean, I would I would think that we wanna be really diligent on who's doing the work to make sure that we keep our canals clean during that process." Mark Storm replied that the building department issues permits and that canal maintenance/public works does not have authority to block permits, though the committee could advise the building department and log complaints. Members discussed informal contractor evaluations and whether repeated complaints could lead to corrective action; no formal evaluation policy was adopted at the meeting.
