Council forms Strawberry Point Pool Committee and adopts advisory bylaws

The Strawberry Point City Council voted to establish the Strawberry Point Pool Committee and to adopt initial bylaws. Staff member said the draft bylaws were updated from seven to eight voting members after eight people expressed interest in serving; the bylaws include a clause allowing the committee or council to disband the committee if it misses a set number of meetings. Staff emphasized the committee will be advisory — the council remains the policy-making body — and that once established the committee must comply with the Open Meetings Act, with published agendas and minutes.

Council discussed staggered initial term lengths (one- and two-year terms) to maintain continuity and asked how subcommittees would operate. Staff member explained the intent to limit subcommittees to a maximum of two voting committee members so working groups could meet and do preparatory work without triggering full published meeting requirements; staff encouraged inclusion of youth voices on working groups. The council approved the resolution establishing the committee.
