Court approves Brookie Park resurfacing; design work for Musco lighting also authorized

The Scott County Fiscal Court on June 12 approved contracting and preliminary design work for improvements at Brookie Park, including milling and resurfacing of existing courts and electrification for new Musco lighting.

Judge Majstrutz presented a lump-sum paving bid from Hamilton Hinkle for $137,500 to mill approximately 2,950 feet of pavement, place a tack coat and lay roughly four inches of asphalt across about 4,330 square yards. The court then considered a $14,950 proposal from Brandcenter Carroll to prepare bid documents and provide electrical design drawings to connect Musco lighting procured through the cooperative purchasing program Sourcewell.

A parks presenter described milling needs, saying some cracks were “6, 8, 7 inches deep” and that milling would go “all the way to the bottom of the pavement” before installing a new surface. The court approved the paving motion first. When the Brandcenter Carroll motion came up, two magistrates recused themselves because the design team was working on a project for one magistrate’s outside work; the Brandcenter Carroll motion passed with the recusals noted.

Judge Majstrutz said the formal Musco/Sourcewell agreement and final documents will be presented at the next meeting and referenced an approximate lighting estimate of $100,000. The court asked staff to return with the formal contract and the MOU/ procurement package for final approval.
