Board adopts multiple policy and bylaw updates, including volunteer training and accessibility changes

The Lemon Grove School District board adopted several policy and bylaw updates during its Aug. 11 meeting, including changes that align district practice with state law and accessibility requirements.

Director Burton presented BP 5145.6 (parent/guardian notifications) with a key substantive change: "the district is adding that we are required to provide alternative formats for individuals with disabilities in the notifications that they are required to receive." Trustees approved the policy after brief questions. Later, Burton outlined updates to BP 1250 (visitors/outsiders) to require non‑staff visitors to register and wear identification on campus and to reference stay-away letters consistent with Penal Code provisions; the board approved that update.

Superintendent Vincent presented revised volunteer policy and administrative regulations reflecting state law that "all volunteers receive mandated reporter training" and tighter fingerprinting processes. Vincent told trustees volunteers will complete training through the district’s JPA platform and that on-site computers will be available for those who need access. The board adopted the volunteer policy.

On governance, updated bylaws clarified Brown Act-related electronic communications and social-media guidance. The board voted 4–1 in favor of Option 1 to make policy review an information meeting followed by action at a second meeting when appropriate.
