County adopts wireless‑tower zoning changes; Planning Commission had recommended 5–1

Jeff Joseph, the planning director, presented case 2006‑003‑TA to revise the county’s rules for wireless communication towers, saying staff proposed consolidating requirements into article 14 and replacing an enclosed masonry‑structure screening requirement with options including landscaping. "Staff changed that to be 132 feet to simplify it," Joseph said when explaining the change to amateur antenna height limits and noted the Planning Commission recommended the amendment 5–1 after a public hearing with no speakers present.

A commissioner moved to approve the amendment as presented and the board adopted the changes unanimously. The changes on the record include an administrative approval path when applications meet certain criteria, a conditional use permit pathway if standards cannot be met, the option for a rule exception under specific criteria, and a consolidation of dispersed standards into a single article to simplify enforcement.
