County moving to new MASA emergency-alert system; Motorola setup fee noted

Officials told the board that the county's previous emergency-notification vendor experienced a data breach and that the department is negotiating migration to a vendor used by nearby jurisdictions. "The MASA notification system is the system that we use for... it's best known as reverse 9-1-1," said a county presenter during the meeting explaining why the county needed to move systems.

The agenda included an item describing a Motorola Solutions subscription services agreement with a one-time setup and installation charge of $34,300. The chair asked David Dyer to come forward later to explain the necessity and technical details of the system. County staff said it will take four to six weeks to complete the contract and to transfer existing contact information into the new system, after which the county will push sign-up notifications to residents.

Staff emphasized the system's dual role for emergency alerts (evacuations, severe weather, Amber Alerts) and for routine communications from departments such as parks and recreation. The county said it will provide materials and answer follow-up questions about the vendor selection and implementation timeline.
