Planning commission recommends rezoning four Huntington parcels from R‑1 to C‑1

The Huntington Planning & Zoning Commission voted Sept. 10, 2026 to recommend that the City Council rezone four parcels from R‑1 (residential) to C‑1 (commercial) to match their existing uses, which include a concrete business, two mobile‑home/RV park parcels and the Huntington City shop.

Jess Lee, Huntington’s zoning administrator, described the proposal during the public hearing: “The proposed zoning map amendment is intended to recognize the existing development and commercial character of this area and bring the zoning designation into alignment with the current uses of the properties.” The parcels named by staff are 340 North 100 West, 370 North 100 West, 375 North 100 West and 380 North 200 West.

During the hearing commissioners heard an email from Christina Haas, manager of Shady Acres Mobile Home and RV Park, asking whether rezoning would affect the park’s continued operation. Commissioners clarified that many of her operational questions are enforcement or administrative matters to be handled by the zoning administrator, not policy decisions of the commission. The body agreed to type and send written answers to Haas and to post the responses with the hearing recording.

After discussion about continuity and the mix of uses on the parcels, Commissioner Chair (Speaker 2) moved to forward the amendment to City Council. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote; the commission recorded the outcome as a recommendation to the council. No dissenting votes were recorded.

Next steps: the recommendation will be transmitted to Huntington City Council for its review and any final action; the commission staff will compile the written responses to questions raised during public comment.
