County explores matching strategy for state fairgrounds safety grant; application deadline flagged

County staff briefed commissioners on a state grant opportunity intended for fairgrounds and rodeo infrastructure improvements, including pedestrian lighting and parking upgrades. Staff said the state lands office signaled some flexibility and offered to work with the county to document aggregate capacity where appropriate.

Submission timing was a focus: staff initially thought the application deadline could be in April or June 30 for the appropriation period, but later in the discussion a staff member noted a highlighted date of Feb. 9 for a submission or related deadline. Commissioners asked staff to coordinate bids, identify 50/50 match sources and return with a recommended funding source to include with any application.
