Resident alleges selective enforcement, seeks refunds and inspections

During public comment, resident George Chachas raised multiple allegations of selective enforcement by city and county code officials and requested records and remedial action. He said a prior building inspector, Don Hendrickson, condemned a property at 450 Ogden Avenue and filed a complaint that led to a $355 fine for Mr. Zevas; George contrasted that with his claim that another property owner, Mark Moattar, was later refunded $500 after years of noncompliance and asked that Mr. Zevas be refunded as well.

"There is no place for selective enforcement or discrimination in the City of Ely or White Pine County," George told the commission and asked for copies of letters sent to property owners who have not met required conditions. He also raised multiple site-specific compliance questions — including development at 292 Aultman Street, a lack of foundation observed there, and missing curb and gutter at a new home at 1151 on the corner of 12th Street and Avenue H — and asked who is responsible for installing required infrastructure under Ely City Code.

The minutes record no direct administrative response or timeline for follow-up; commissioners later said such matters should be brought forward as agenda items for formal consideration.
