Board authorizes applications for sport-fish restoration and Visit Rome grants to build ADA pier

The Adams County Board voted to authorize the Land and Water Conservation Department to apply for a Sport Fish Restoration grant and a Visit Rome tourism grant to fund initial work on an ADA-accessible pier and access improvements at a county park. The resolution was recommended by the department’s committee and moved and seconded by supervisors Turco and McLaughlin.

Colton, the land-and-water staff member answering questions, said the project’s initial phase will include a concrete pad for 2–3 vehicles, an ADA-compliant gangway and an ADA-compliant pier. He told the board the $30,000 figure covers those base components and noted that the grants operate on a reimbursement basis. "So this both grants are reimbursement basis grant... The sport fish restoration fund will pay 50 to 75% of the project, and the Visit Rome grant will contribute up to 50% of the project," Colton said, adding that using the Visit Rome grant as local match avoids using federal funds for match requirements.

Supervisor Baker raised questions about site access and whether the park is currently suitable for disabled users; staff described engineering input and design measures to meet ADA slope and barrier requirements. The board voted to adopt Resolution 30; the clerk announced the vote as unanimous (total votes 18).
