Public commenter flags $450,000 May transfers into ‘professional services’

A public commenter who reviewed the district’s May 2026 fund-10 transaction report told the Big Spring School District board that ‘‘On May 13, the district executed a single batch of internal transfers totaling over $450,000.’’ The speaker read itemized moves the report shows, saying the secondary education professional-services line increased by roughly $138,000 and that a separate $20,000 transfer went to a professional-services account designated for the Cumberland Perry Area Career and Technology Center, bringing the total professional-services increase to about $158,000.

The commenter listed the accounts reduced to balance the transfers: $60,000 from special-education tuition, $55,000 from life-skills support, $23,000 from student transportation and just over $12,000 from student psychological services. The speaker said these are ‘‘just financial facts that are documented in the district’s May 2026 budgetary transaction report’’ and emphasized the figures were read from the printed ledger rather than offered as an interpretation. Board members later discussed that ‘‘professional services’’ can include a range of contracted specialists and that itemized coding would be required to identify which vendors or services received the funds.
