Select Board authorizes subcommittee to remove unusable items from the Village School

The select board voted to give the village-school subcommittee authority to remove unusable items from the Jamaica Village School building at the subcommittee’s discretion while inventorying items that may hold value. The motion arose after committee members and board members discussed liability for volunteers, whether items should be sold or discarded, and how to inventory higher‑value items.

Committee member (Committee member 3) proposed that the group be allowed to "clean out the building of unusable items," drawing clarification on thresholds and a suggestion that items of unclear value be inventoried and returned to the board for disposition. Chair and other members noted the town’s insurance waiver for volunteers and asked the subcommittee to follow procedures and return with proposals for paid services if volunteer work is insufficient.
